Book Review: Offworld

Offworld (Dangerous Times Collection Book #1) by [Parrish, Robin]

I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Offworld by Robin Parrish was an easy, enjoyable read. I don’t read a lot of science fiction. I have started many science fiction novels, but they usually end up as DNF’s. This one, about four astronauts who had spent two and a half years away from Earth on a Mars mission came back to Earth to find everyone missing. They take it upon themselves to discover what happened. As the story progresses, it keeps you interested. The only thing I didn’t really care for was Owen Beechum who turned out to be a really kick ass soldier type person as well as a brilliant man. It felt kind of like a cop out, you know, took the easy way out with the character and situations. Other than that, I found it an enjoyable read.

During most of the book, the reader is kept wondering what happened, which of course keeps you reading. When you finally found out what’s happening and what caused every single person on Earth to disappear, it’s a bit of a mood killer. At least it was for me. I won’t go into detail about what caused it as I don’t want to spoil it for anyone wanting to read the book.

I would recommend this book to other people who like science fiction.
