Give it All You’ve Got

We’ve been busy editing the first book in Hartland. Still haven’t come up with a suitable title for it, but have been busy polishing it and making it presentable. It’s been a lot of fun, but time consuming and a lot of work.

I know there is this say that writer’s write. Some people like the saying. Others don’t. They think it’s saying writer’s should write all the time. Let’s face it, we don’t write every single day. We try, but sometimes the words just don’t come to us. Or, sometimes life gets in the way and we’re forced to deal with issues as any other person is. The days we don’t write are the days we feel most guilty about. It’s probably because writing is one of our passions, video games being another. Every time we don’t write, it feels as if we’re setting ourselves back, which is why we try to write something every day, even if it’s just a sentence.

Our biggest issue with people who want to be writers or authors are the ones who say they don’t have time to write and make no effort to do so at all. Or the ones who say I can write a book if I only had time and then proceed to tell us they went to the bar last night and got wasted. They don’t like it when we tell them, they could have chosen to write instead. Writing is a choice. We give up things in our lives to make time for it. Why? Because we enjoy it. Sometimes when the words do flow. Other times, we don’t enjoy it so much, but we still sacrifice things, like watching television, finishing reading a book, or having a huge social life, so we have the time to write. Writing is part of who we are. It’s what we want to do with our lives. We love creating worlds and characters. It’s why we make the time to write.

Our philosophy with writing is “give it all you’ve got or give up and give in”.  Even if all you achieved was one sentence that seemed to take an eternity to show up on the page (because real life issues effect writing), we still achieved something toward our goal.

Just remember, if you want something bad enough you’ll make the time for it. You’ll sacrifice things for it because it’s something you desire. Never give up on yourself or your dreams. No one is going to make these things happen for you. You have to do it yourself!
